Lab Manager 4.0.2 and 4.0.3 Web console is blank if the vSphere Client is installed on the same machine (1020474)

Details

VMware vCenter Lab Manager installs an ActiveX plug-in to display the Web console in Microsoft Internet Explorer. If the vSphere Client is installed on the same machine, it interferes with the registration of vCenter Lab Manager's plug-in. The vCenter Lab Manager Web consoles appears black in Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Solution

Do one of the following:

  • If you are using vSphere Client 4.0, upgrade to vSphere Client 4.0 Update 2.
  • If you are using vSphere Client 4.1, upgrade to vSphere Client 4.1 Update 1.

After upgrading the vSphere Client, do the following:

  1. Close all instances of Internet Explorer.
  2. Run the following command (as administrator) at the command prompt to register the Lab Manager console plug-in.
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS\quickMksAx.dll"

Note: Use %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS\quickMksAx.dll file for Internet Explorer on 64-bit Windows.
If the %ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS\quickMksAx.dll file does not exist or the above mentioned steps do not resolve the issue, you should install Lab Manager's console plug-in.

To install Lab Manager MKS console plug-in
  1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS.
  2. Delete all VMware-related plug-in files.
  3. Download the plug-in CAB file from the following https URL:
    //<LM IP ADDRESS>/LabManager/ControlPanel/Machines/MachineDetails/ActiveXControls/ViewerXVNC/VMware-mks.cab
  4. Uncompress the contents of the CAB file into C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS\.
  5. Close all instances of Internet Explorer.
  6. Run the following command (as administrator) at the command prompt to register the Lab Manager console plug-in.
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS\quickMksAx.dll"
