Packets are duplicated when you configure a portgroup or a vSwitch to use a route that is based on IP-hash and Beaconing Probing policies simultaneously (1017612)

Details

Configuring a portgroup to use a route based on IP-hash policy for load balancing and on the Beacon Probing policy for network failover detection at the same time results in duplicate packets.

Solution

Starting with the VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 6 release, the VI Client disallows such a configuration and displays the following error message:
Setting Network Failover Detection to "Beacon Probing" and Load balancing to "Route based on
ip hash" at the same time is not a valid configuration. Please change your settings.
However, a few corner cases do exist, which allow a portgroup to inherit a policy setting, and therefore have the Route based on IP-hash and Beaconing Probing policies set on it.

Note: For additional information concerning the VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 6 release, see the Release Notes
