Guest virtual machines lose connectivity with Windows host after upgrading to Workstation 7

Symptoms

On some Windows hosts, upgrading to Workstation 7 may cause:
  • Virtual machines to lose network connectivity with the host.
  • Network connectivity for other hosts remain unaffected.

Resolution

To restore network connectivity, disable IPv4 Checksum offloading in the Advanced Properties of the affected hosts and virtual machines. The options can vary based on the host and the network adapter available.

On the host machine:
  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Expand the network adapter section.
  3. Click the network card and go to Properties.
  4. Click the Advanced tab and look for checksum offloading or hardware checksumming.
  5. Disable this option using the drop down.
