Upgrading to Update 1 using vihostupdate fails with the Cisco Nexus 1000V installed (1015879)

  • Upgrading an ESX 4.0 or ESXi 4.0 host to Update 1 using the vihostupdate utility when the Cisco Nexus 1000V is installed, while specifying only the Cisco Nexus 1000V bulletin fails. For example, if you try to upgrade a host to for ESX 4.0 Update1, using the command:

    vihostupdate —bundle, —bulletin VEM400-200911014-BG -i <server>
The vihostupdate utility will not be able to match the firmware bulletin to the Cisco Nexus 1000V bulletin and the upgrade fails and displays the error 'Additional VIBs are required to satisfy dependencies.'

You must also pass the vmkernel bulletin (for ESX) or firmware bulletin (for ESXi) when executing the update command with vihostupdate.
  • For ESXi 4.0 Update1, the firmware bulletin is ESXi400-200911201-UG. To upgrade ESXi 4.0 to Update 1, issue the command:

vihostupdate --server <server> --username <uname> --password <passwd> --bundle, --bulletin VEM400-200911014-BG,ESXi400-200911201-UG --install

  • For ESX 4.0, the vmkernel bulletin is ESX400-200911201-UG. To upgrade ESX 4.0 to Update 1, issue the command:

vihostupdate --server <server> --username <uname> --password <passwd> --bundle, --bulletin VEM400-200911014-BG,ESX400-200911201-UG --install
