- You see the error:
DSN is pointing to a unsupported ODBC driver
Resolution
This issue occurs if the ODBC connection is using an outdated SQL Native Client.
You can download a newer version at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C6C3E9EF-BA29-4A43-8D69-A2BED18FE73C&displaylang=en.
Note: The preceding link was correct as of August 30, 2010. If you find the link is broken, provide feedback and a VMware employee will update the link.
From the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Native Client section, download the .msi which is appropriate to your vCenter Server and install. This ODBC driver is compatible with SQL 2000, 2005, and 2008.
From the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Native Client section, download the .msi which is appropriate to your vCenter Server and install. This ODBC driver is compatible with SQL 2000, 2005, and 2008.
After the download, you must change your DSN to use SQL Native Client 10 as opposed to SQL Native Client, then retry the upgrade. Currently in Windows, the only way to change the driver is by completely removing the DSN, and recreating it with the Native Client driver.
Note: If you are using SQL 2000, you must to upgrade to at least SQL 2005 for the installation to complete.
