Configure Update Manager Download Service to download only ESX 4.x patches

Details

By default, Update Manager Download Service (UMDS) downloads patches for both ESX 3.x and ESX 4.x hosts. You can configure UMDS to download patches only for ESX 4.x hosts.

Solution

To configure UMDS to download only ESX 4.x patches
  1. Perform a fresh installation of UMDS.
    If you have an existing database with patch data, you cannot configure UMDS to download only ESX 4.x patches.
  2. Log in to the machine on which UMDS is installed.
  3. Navigate to the UMDS installation directory and open the downloadConfig.xml file for editing.
    • The default path in 32-bit Windows is C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager
    • The default path in 64-bit Windows is C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager
  4. Comment out the line for downloading ESX 3.x patches.

  5. Save and close the file.
  6. Download the patches by using UMDS.

UMDS downloads only ESX 4.x patches.
