Virtual Internet Explorer 7 Crashes on Windows Server 2008

Details

When you use ThinApp to capture Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP, and you start the package on a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows Server 2008 machine without disabling Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration, the package crashes.

Solution

The version of the ieframe.dll file that is part of Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP causes the application failure. This failure does not occur with the version of the ieframe.dll file that is part of Internet Explorer 7 shipped with Windows Server 2008.

To prevent the failure of Internet Explorer 7 that is captured on Windows XP and deployed on Windows Server 2008
  1. Replace the %SystemSystem%\ieframe.dll file in the ThinApp project with a copy of the ieframe.dll file from a Windows Server 2008 machine that has Internet Explorer installed on the native system.

You can copy the C:\Windows\System32\ieframe.dll file for 32-bit Windows Server 2008 or the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ieframe.dll file for 64-bit Windows Server 2008 .

  2. Rebuild the package with the build.bat utility.
