Solution
Summaries and Symptoms
Issues fixed in this patch (and their relevant symptoms, if applicable) include:
- This fix includes updated BIND packages that fix non-security issues and a security issue in the ESX service console. This fixes an error found when BIND handles dynamic update message packets containing the ANY record type, which might allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service assertion failure and daemon exit by using an ANY record in the prerequisite section of a crafted dynamic update message. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures Project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2009-0696 to this issue.
For a complete list of the issues fixed in ESX 4.0 Update 1, see the ESX 4.0 Update 1 Release Notes.
Deployment Considerations
None beyond the required patch bundles and reboot information listed in the table above.
