vCenter Service Status and Health Status do not reflect changes to vCenter Server hostname

Symptoms

If you change the hostname of a vCenter Server, you may experience these symptoms:

  • The new hostname does not take effect.
  • The vCenter Service status and the Health status at Plug-ins > Manage Plug-ins may display the error:

The following error occurred while downloading the script plugin from https://[hostname]:[port]/cim-ui/scriptConfig.xml: The remote name could not be resolved: [hostname]

  • The vCenter Service is slow to start up
  • You may see the errors:
    • Unable to retrieve health data from https://<vc_name>:8443/vws/Query/Health
    • Unable to retrieve health data from https://<vc_name>:443/vws/Query/vpxdhealth

Resolution

This issue may occur if old information is retained after the domain name for vCenter Server is changed.

This issue is resolved in vCenter Server 4.0 Update 1. For more information, see the VMware vCenter Server 4.0 Update 1 Release Notes.

You can download vCenter Server 4.0 Update 1 from the vSphere Download page.
