Supported versions of Windows for McAfee VirusScan Plus installation

Symptoms

Fusion 2.x and 3.x come bundled with McAfee antivirus software, but this software only supports certain versions of Windows. If your version of Windows is not supported:
  • Install McAfee VirusScan Plus may be grayed out in the Virtual Machine menu
  • Cannot install McAfee
  • Trying to install the McAfee program may display a warning that the current version of Windows is not supported.

Resolution

Fusion 3

The version of McAfee VirusScan Plus bundled with Fusion 3 supports these versions of Windows:

  • Microsoft® Windows 2000 (32-bit) with Service Pack 4 (SP4) or higher
  • Windows XP (32-bit) with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or higher
  • Windows Vista (32- or 64-bit) and Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) or higher
  • Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)

It has these additional requirements:

  • 800 X 600 or higher resolution
  • 256 MB RAM
  • 150 MB of available free drive space
  • Internet connection
  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0 or later
  • Optional: Mozilla Firefox 1.5 or later

Fusion 2

The version of McAfee VirusScan Plus bundled with Fusion 2.x supports these versions of Windows:
  • Microsoft® Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 (SP4) or higher
  • Windows XP with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or higher (32bit only)
  • Windows Vista (32bit only)
It has these additional requirements:
  • 800 X 600 or higher resolution.
  • Internet connection.
  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.
  • Optional: Mozilla Firefox 1.5 or later.

Fusion 1

Fusion 1.x did not include bundled antivirus software. A complimentary upgrade to Fusion 2.x is available for all registered Fusion users, and can be downloaded at the Download VMware Fusion site.
