Adding a New User to the Existing Group Does Not Inherit the User to the Same Group (10143)

Details

When I perform the following steps to add a newly created user to an existing group to which no users have been assigned, the newly created user is not inherited to that group. For example:
  1. Log in to the host directly using the Virtual Infrastructure Client, or access the host through VMware VirtualCenter. Select the Users and Groups tab.
  2. Select Groups. Create a new group (for example, Group1) without assigning any user to it.
  3. Select Users. Create a new user (for example, user1) that doesn’t belong to any group.
  4. Select the Permissions tab. Assign the Administrator role to Group1.
  5. Select Users and Groups>Users. Select user1>Edit and add Group1 to user1.
  6. Log in as user1 through the VI Client. The operation fails with the error message: Permission to perform this operation was denied.

Solution

This issue is fixed in ESX Server 3.0.2 and all higher versions.
