NUMA Settings for Unisys ES7000-7600R with ESX 4.0

Details

To configure Unisys ES7000-7600R system with ESX 4.0 in a multi-cell configuration, that is, a Non-Uniform Memory Access (NUMA) mode, special settings need to be applied.

If you do not configure your environment properly, ESX does not run in NUMA mode and you may experience a purple diagnostics screen after running the system for about 14 days.

Note: ES7000-7600R must be running with the BIOS version 2.01.151 UEFI 2.0 x64, otherwise these changes do not take effect.

Solution

To apply these settings, from the VMware vSphere Client:
  1. Choose the Unisys Server.
  2. Click the Configuration tab.
  3. Under Software, click Advanced Settings.
  4. In the Advanced Settings dialog, select VMkernel > Boot > assumePerNodeBusClock. This sets the option to TRUE.
  5. Reboot the ESX system.
ESX now runs in the NUMA mode on ES7000-7600R server.
