Mouse in Fusion 2.x stops responding when Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) is installed

Symptoms

You may experience these symptoms:
  • Mouse is not responding in a Fusion virtual machine
  • Mouse does not return to a Fusion virtual machine after using Mac applications

Resolution

This is a known issue in Fusion 2.0.0 - Fusion 2.0.5.

The issue is resolved in Fusion 2.0.6. You can get Fusion 2.0.6 from the Download VMware Fusion site.

To workaround the issue, press Ctrl-Command to return the mouse from the virtual machine to Mac OS, then click in the virtual machine again. You can now use your mouse in the virtual machine as expected.

This issue results from changes Apple made to mouse behavior in Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). In essence, the mouse goes to sleep when focus is released from the virtual machine. Pressing Ctrl-Command wakes it up.
