Enabling Fault Tolerance on a virtual machine configured with a vmxnet3 vNIC fails

Symptoms

  • Enabling Fault Tolerance on a virtual machine that is configured with a vmxnet3 vNIC fails
  • You see an error indicating that the network adapter is not supported with Fault Tolerance

Resolution

This issue occurs because the vmxnet3 adapter is not supported with Fault Tolerance.

To resolve this issue, use vmxnet2 (enhanced), Flexible Virtual Network Adapter, or e1000 as a vNIC.
