Roll‐ups provide you with a convenient way to download and install multiple bundles at one time. Installing this roll-up bundle ZIP provides all the fixes for the ESX Server 3.0.2 as of August 7, 2009.
The roll-up bundle ZIP contains fixes for ESX Server 3.0.2 software only, and cannot be used to upgrade from prior ESX Server releases.
Solution
Extracting the Roll-Up Files
The roll-up bundle ZIP contains an ESX Server 3.0.2 patch depot. A depot is a collection of patch repository directories and a contents file that lists the patch repositories. The patch repositories contained in the roll-up zip file are all the latest, non-superseded patches that can be downloaded from http://www.vmware.com, except for the rollup-up patch bundle.
To use the ESX Server 3.0.2 zip file, run the unzip command to extract the depot in to the directory.
For example, the unzip -d /tmp ESX-3.0.2-Rollup-03.zip command extracts the ESX-3.0.2-Rollup-03 depot to the /tmp directory.
You set up patch depots on an HTTP server, FTP server, or an NFS share system. This allows you to update your ESX Server hosts from one central location and, you have to download and extract patches only once for all ESX Server hosts.
Installation Instructions
You can use the esxupdate update command to install bundles.
Prerequisite: To support the installation of roll-up bundles, ESX Server 3.0.2 systems should be installed by using the latest esxupdate script to support descriptor version 2.0.
Prior to installing the roll-up bundles, ESX-1003525 should be installed on ESX Server 3.0.2 systems.
Unzip the roll-up bundle.
To install the roll-up bundle on ESX Server 3.0.2, run the esxupdate -d <depot directory for roll-up> update command.
