Host exits maintenance mode after applying tools bulletin using VMware Hostupdate Utility (VHU/VIU)

Details

If you install a patch bulletin that requires maintenance mode and host reboot with VMware Hostupdate Utility (VHU/VIU), VHU switches the system to maintenance mode, applies the bulletin and reboots the system back into maintenance mode. In this instance you must manually exit maintenance mode.

If you apply an additional bulletin without exiting maintenance mode and the bulletin does not require maintenance mode and host reboot, the bulletin is successfully upgraded and VHU exits maintenance mode automatically.

If you apply a bulletin that requires maintenance mode and host reboot, in addition to a bulletin that has no prerequisites, the system remains in maintenance mode after upgrade and reboot. In this instance you must manually exit maintenance mode.

Note: This article only applies to ESXi Embedded patching.
