Change the data collector logging level

Details

The logging level for the data collector is set to INFO by default. You cannot change the logging level for the data collector from vCenter Chargeback. You must change the logging level in the log4j.properties file.

Solution

To change the logging level for a data collector:

  1. Open the log4j.properties file from the <DC_Installation_Directory>/classes folder.
  2. Modify the value for the entry log4j.rootLogger.
The default entry is log4j.rootLogger=INFO. The permitted log levels are DEBUG, INFO, WARN, ERROR, and FATAL.
  3. Save and close the file.

After you make changes to this file, the data collector will use the new logging level. The data collector automatically checks for changes every one minute. Therefore, you need not restart the data collector service.
