VMware View desktops lose connection over a Security Gateway Server
Symptoms
- VMware View desktops lose their connection over a Security Gateway Server multiple times per hour
- The View Client session becomes unresponsive for approximately 10 to 20 seconds
- You see the message:
Trying to reconnect.
- On the Desktop the following Windows Event you see the message:

Resolution
This issue may occur if the bandwidth control settings on the firewall are insufficient.
To resolve this issue, configure the physical or virtual firewall with two policies:
- Policy 1 -- Allow HTTP and HTTPS from WAN to VDI Network. On this policy there is a guaranteed bandwidth of 50KBps and Traffic priority is medium.
- Policy 2 -- Allow AJP, JPS, RDP from the Secure Gateway Server in the VDI Network to the View Server on the LAN
Note: Physical or virtual firewall usage depends upon the physical or virtual type of Security and Connection servers in the environment. For more information about ESX firewall modification, see Securing an ESX Server 3 Configuration in the ESX Server 3 Configuration Guide.
For a complete list of ports, see TCP and UDP Ports for vCenter Server, ESX hosts, and other network components management access (1012382).
For more information, see Firewall Configuration in the View Manager Administration Guide.
