In vSphere 4.0, SDK for Perl and vCLI are shipped as a single installable package.

Solution

  1. Launch command shell (if installed in Windows platform) or Open a terminal session (if installed in Linux)
  2. Under Windows Platform, cd to the  vsphere CLI (aka) VMware Remote CLI install directory
  3. Under Linux Platform, please make sure that the PATH variable includes the vsphere CLI (aka) VMware Remote CLI install path
  4. Run the following command to retreive the build number/version (highlighted in the example below)
    vicfg-advcfg --version
Example:

C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware VI Remote CLI\bin>vicfg-advcfg.pl --version
