Downloading the UI module for AppSpeed fails

Symptoms

  • Downloading the AppSpeed user interface module fails
  • You see the error:

Unable to communicate with AppSpeed server: failed to download UI module from
http://vCenter address>/AppSpeed, consult your system administrator.

Resolution

The failure to download the UI module for AppSpeed occurs when an HTTP connection to the AppSpeed server is refused because of certificate authorization issues.

To resolve the issue:
  1. Navigate to the AppSpeed server address (http://<AppSpeed server IP>) using Internet Explorer or Firefox.

A message appears indicating that the serverʹs certificate needs to be approved before the machine allows HTTP connections to it.

  2. Approve the certificate using the Web browser.
  3. Restart the VI Client.
  4. Click AppSpeed.
  5. If the problem persists, browse to http://<AppSpeed server_ip>/AppSpeed/static/setup.exe and try to download setup.exe directly from the AppSpeed Brain. If you succeed, the server is accessible.
  6. If the problem persists and the 503 Service Unavailable message appears:

    1. Log in to the AppSpeed server virtual machine as the console user.
    2. Run restart_appspeed from the AppSpeed virtual machine console to restart AppSpeed.
