Problem Upgrading VMware vCenter Lab Manager Due to Permission Issues (1011964)
Details
Solution
Using SQL Server Management Studio Express, you must add the currently logged in user in HOSTNAME\currentlogonuser to the database with system administrator permissions. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365247.aspx for more information on SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Since this failure occurs after the installer removes the Lab Manager groups from database, you must add VMwareLMClientAccts and VMwareLMServerAccts back with permission to access the Lab Manager database. The installer expects these groups to be present.
To add VMwareLMClientAccts and VMwareLMServerAccts:
- Install SQL Server Management Studio Express on your Lab Manager host. This installation must be local (for example, local host\Lab Manager).
-
Click Connect.
-
In the Object Explorer panel, expand Security.
-
Expand Logins.
-
Right click on a login name and select New Login.
-
In Object Types, select Group.
-
Select Advanced.
-
Select Find Now.
All groups and users appear. You can add the Administrators group or the currently logged in user. -
Select and add VMwareLMClientAccts.
-
Right click VMwareLMClientAccts and select Properties.
-
In the Default databases drop-down list, select Lab Manager.
-
Click OK.
-
For the user mapping, select Lab Manager.
- Left click and select sysadmin as the Server Role.
-
Click OK.
- Repeat steps 10 to 15 for VMwareLMServerAccts.
