Troubleshooting Host Spanning Transport Networks

Purpose

This article provides steps to troubleshoot network failures that may occur between virtual machines deployed on a Host Spanning Transport Network.

Resolution

If you experience network failures between virtual machines deployed on a Host Spanning Transport network, host spanning may not be enabled.

To enable host spanning:
  1. On the main menu, click Resources.
  2. Click the Host Spanning Transport Networks tab.
  3. Select Enable Host Spanning.
  4. Add a Transport Network as needed. For more information, see the Lab Manager User's Guide.
  5. To enable host spanning for each host in the Host Spanning Transport Network:
    1. On the main menu, click Resources.
    2. Click the Hosts tab.
    3. Place your mouse over the host and click Properties.
    4. Select Enable host for Host Spanning.
    5. Click OK.
If you enable host spanning and still experience network failures, repair each host in the Host Spanning Transport Network.

Before you repair the hosts, you must deploy the hosts' virtual machines to a different host.

To deploy virtual machines to a different host:
  1. On the main menu, click Resources.
  2. Click the Hosts tab.
  3. Place your mouse over the host and click Disable.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Place your mouse over the host and click Redeploy all VMs.

To repair the host:

  1. On the main menu, click Resources.
  2. Click the Hosts tab.
  3. Place your mouse over the host and click Repair.
If repairing the host fails, unprepare and then prepare the host.

To unprepare and prepare the host:
  1. On the main menu, click Resources.
  2. Click the Hosts tab.
  3. Place your mouse over the host and click Unprepare.
  4. When the unprepare is completed, click Prepare.
