Unable to open Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel attachments in a captured Microsoft Outlook application

Details

If a captured Microsoft Outlook application has a Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel attachment, and Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel is installed on the native machine, you cannot open the attachment directly from the captured Microsoft Outlook.

Solution

Configuring a machine with a native installation of Microsoft Office and a captured Microsoft Outlook application involves excluding Microsoft Outlook during the prescan process in the Setup Capture wizard and creating a VBScript file.

To ensure that you can open Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel attachments from a captured Microsoft Outlook application when Microsoft Office is installed on the native machine:
  1. On a clean machine, install Microsoft Office 2007 except for Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Start the Setup Capture wizard and perform a prescan operation of the machine.
  3. Start the Microsoft Office 2007 installation again and install only Microsoft Outlook.
  4. Perform a postscan operation.
  5. Create a VBScript file.

a   Create a file, such as force.vbs, in the same folder as the Package.ini file.
b   In the .vbs file, add this entry:

    AddForcedVirtualLoadPath("C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12")

  6. Build the package.
