Upgrading vCenter Server Heartbeat 5.5 to vCenter Server Heartbeat 5.5 Update 1

Purpose

This article provides the steps to upgrade vCenter Server Heartbeat 5.5 to vCenter Server Heartbeat 5.5 Update 1.

Resolution

To upgrade to VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat:
 
Note: These steps preserve the current configuration settings during the upgrade process.
  1. Download the vCenter Server Heartbeat 5.5 Update 1 Service Pack and extract the contents to a desired location on both the Primary and Secondary servers.
  2. On the Primary/Active server, stop vCenter Server Heartbeat opting to leave protected applications running.
  3. Navigate to Start > Administrative Tools > Services and set the Neverfail Server R2 service to manual.
  4. On the Secondary/Passive server, navigate to Start > Administrative Tools > Services and set the Neverfail Server R2 service to manual.
  5. On the Secondary/Passive server, disconnect the network cable from the Principal (Public) NIC.
  6. On the Primary/Active server, launch the newly downloaded vCenter Server Heartbeat 5.5 Update 1 Setup.exe and select the option to Install Service Pack when the Setup Type screen is displayed.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the ServicePack.nfs script and when prompted, reboot the server.
  8. On the Secondary/Passive server, launch the newly downloaded vCenter Server Heartbeat 5.5 Update 1 Setup.exe and select the option to Install Service Pack when the Setup Type screen is displayed.
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the ServicePack.nfs script and when prompted, reboot the server.
  10. On the Primary/Active server, check the configuration of the NICs and make corrections if necessary (the packet filter must be selected on Principal (Public) NICs and cleared on channel NICs).
  11. On the Secondary/Passive server, check the configuration of NICs and make corrections if necessary (the packet filter must be selected on Principal (Public) NICs and cleared on channel NICs).
  12. On the Primary/Active server, start vCenter Server Heartbeat.
  13. Navigate to Start > Administrative Tools > Services and set Neverfail Server R2 service to automatic.
  14. On Secondary/Passive server, start vCenter Server Heartbeat and reconnect the network cable to the Principal (Public) NIC.
  15. Navigate to Start > Administrative Tools > Services and set Neverfail Server R2 service to automatic.
