Virtual Machine Communication Framework (VMCF) Features are Experimental in the vSphere 4.0 Release (1010182)

Details

The Virtual Machine Communication Framework (VMCF) SDK is installed when you install VMware Tools on Linux systems or when you choose the "Typical" or "Full" install option on Windows systems. The VMCF SDK is located in the VMware Tools directory. However, this feature is experimental in the vSphere 4.0 release. The APIs defined in the VMCF SDK are subject to change.

The VMCF SDK components are installed in the following location:

Windows: C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools\VMCF SDK

Linux: /usr/lib/vmware-tools/VMCF-SDK and /usr/lib/vmware-tools/lib32/64

Solution

The VMCF SDK is subject to change. No VMware components use the VMCF SDK yet, so this will not affect future versions of VMware products. However, do not attempt to create applications based on the VMCF SDK, the interfaces are likely to change significantly in future versions.
