Solution

Summaries and Symptoms

Fixes the following security issue in the service console:

  • A flaw in the way BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain) checks the return value of the OpenSSL DSA_do_verify function. A malicious zone might present a malformed DSA certificate and bypass proper certificate validation, allowing spoofing attacks on systems using DNSSEC. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures Project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2009-0025 to this issue.

To update ESX Server 3.5 hosts when not using Update Manager, download the most recent patch bundle from http://www.vmware.com/download/vi/vi3_patches_35.html and install the bundle using esxupdate from the command line of the host.
