Error when adding a PCI device after deleting another PCI device

Details

When all PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) slots are active and you want to make the slots available for bus adapters by deleting hard drives, the following error appears:
Cannot create a <PCI device>, no more free PCI slots available.

Solution

  1. Open the .vmx file for the virtual machine.
  2. If the scsi<n>:<n>.present="TRUE" entry is not present, delete the following entry:
    scsi<n>.present = "TRUE"
    where <n> is the bus adapter number.
Important: Delete scsi<n>.present = "TRUE" only if the following entry is not present in the .vmx file: scsi<n>:<n>.present="TRUE"
