Disabling the VMware Packet Filter on the Channel NICs

Symptoms

  • Interference with network traffic across the channel
  • Intermittent channel connection or no channel connection at all

Resolution

During the installation of VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat, the VMware Packet Filter is automatically installed and enabled on all NICs on both the Primary and Secondary servers. Disabling the Packet Filter on the channel NIC(s) on each server is a documented part of the installation of VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat. If the VMware Packet Filter is left enabled on one or more channel NICs after installation is complete, it may interfere with network traffic across the channel.

In the Properties tab for each channel NIC on both servers, confirm that VMware Packet Filter is deselected, meaning that VMware Packet Filter is disabled on that NIC.
