Provisioning operation fails when the desktop pool name is not unique in that VirtualCenter location

Details

When a provisioned desktop pool is created in Virtual Desktop Manager or View Manager, a subfolder is created to hold the provisioned virtual machines. If there is an existing virtual machine or template with the same name as the desktop pool, the subfolder cannot not created, because VirtualCenter does not allow the creation of more than one object with the same name at the same location. Because the provisioned pool does not have this subfolder, the provisioning operation fails. Furthermore, if you delete the desktop pool, the virtual machine or template with the same name as the desktop pool is also deleted.

Solution

When you create a provisioned desktop pool in Virtual Desktop Manager or View Manager, make sure that the name of the desktop pool is unique in that VirtualCenter location.

In View 3.1, an error message is displayed if you attempt to create a desktop pool with the same name as an existing virtual machine or template.
