Time out in application Starting/Stopping

Symptoms

  • Starting or stopping fails during switchover or failover
  • You receive the following error:

    Time out in application Starting/Stopping

Purpose

This article provides detail about the Time out in application Starting/Stopping error.

Resolution

A possible cause is that one or more services cannot be started or stopped during the above operations.
 
To check which operation has timed out, open the VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat Console and read the Status log on the Status section of the Application tab.

Additionally, from the Service Control Manager (SCM), ensure that all the services are stopped on the server that became passive during the switchover and that all the protected services are started on the server that became active.
