Performance Overview charts might fail to display if VirtualCenter is upgraded without stopping the VMware Infrastructure Web Access Service (1008330)

Details

If the VMware Infrastructure Web Access service is not stopped before upgrading to VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 4, after installing the Performance Overview plug-in in the VirtualCenter, the Performance Overview tab might fail to display charts with a message similar to the following:

Chart could not be loaded.

Solution

Workaround

If VirtualCenter is upgraded when the Virtual Infrastructure Web Access Service is running, you need to reinstall the Virtual Infrastructure Web Access feature and re-install the Performance Overview plug-in:
  1. Log in to the VirtualCenter Server as an administrator.
  2. Click Start > Run.
  3. Type services.msc and press Enter.
  4. Right-click and choose Stop on the VMware Virtual Infrastructure Web Access service.
  5. In the Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs utility, change the VMware VirtualCenter Server program.
  6. Modify the VirtualCenter Server installation, and remove the Virtual Infrastructure Web Access feature.
  7. In the Add or Remove Programs utility, change the VMware VirtualCenter Server program.
  8. Modify the VirtualCenter Server installation, and install the Virtual Infrastructure Web Access feature on the local hard drive.
  9. Re-install the Performance Overview plug-in:
    1. In the command window goto to the folder vpx/perfCharts, the location where the Performance Overview plug-in is available.
If you are using the ZIP file, go to the bin\perfCharts folder.
    2. Run uninstall.bat <VirtualCenter_Username> <VirtualCenter_Password>.
    3. Run install.bat <VirtualCenter_Username> <VirtualCenter_Password>.
  10. Connect VMware Infrastructure (VI) Client to the VirtualCenter Server, and enable the Performance Overview plug-in:
    1. In the VirtualCenter Server, click Plugins > Manage Plugins.
    2. In the Installed tab of the Plugin Manager window, select Enabled for com.vmware.vim.stats.report.
Note: The above workaround should be used when all virtual machines are missing performance charts. If only one virtual machine (or a subset) is seeing this behavior:
  1. Power down the impacted virtual machine.
  2. Select the virtual machine in the Inventory. From its Summary tab, take note of the datastore or datastores on which the virtual disks reside.
  3. Remove from the virtual machine from the Inventory. Choose Inventory > Virtual Machine > Remove from Inventory and click OK.
  4. Add the virtual machine back to Inventory. Right-click the datastore and choose Browse Datastore. Navigate to the virtual machine or template to add to inventory. Right-click the virtual machine or template and choose Add to Inventory.
