Verifying the VirtualCenter Managed IP Address
Symptoms
-
Managed host disconnects from VirtualCenter
-
The managed host disconnects from VirtualCenter when any functions of the host are utilized
Purpose
This article provides steps to verify the VirtualCenter Managed IP Address.
Resolution
If an incorrect Managed IP Address has been set, VirtualCenter does not receive heartbeats from the ESX host causing it to go into a disconnected state.
Note: When using VirtualCenter 2.0.x to check this, you need to log in to the ESX host directly and review the <serverIP> configuration section of the /etc/vmware/vpxa.cfg file to see if the IP address is correct.
To check if a Managed IP has been set on VirtualCenter 2.5:
-
From VMware Infrastructure (VI) Client navigate to Administration > VirtualCenter Management Server Configuration > Runtime Settings and review the VirtualCenter Server Managed IP address setting.
-
Verify that the address is correct. If not, correct the entry and click OK to save your changes and close the dialog.
-
Remove the ESX host from the VirtualCenter Inventory.
-
Add the ESX host back to VirtualCenter Inventory.
To check if a managed IP has been set on vCenter Server 4.0:
-
From vSphere Client navigate to Administration > vCenter Server Settings > Runtime Settings and review the Managed IP Address setting.
-
Verify that the address is correct. If not, correct the entry and click OK to save your changes and close the dialog.
-
Remove the ESX host from the vCenter Inventory.
-
Add the ESX host back to vCenter Inventory.
