Issues caused when Parallels Tools is installed in the virtual machine (1007824)

Details

  • The virtual machine is migrated from Parallels
  • The network adapter cannot obtain an IP address lease from a DHCP server
  • Networking in the virtual machine works when a static IP address is assigned
  • Unable to convert a virtual machine created in Parallels
  • A Parallels Tools error appears.
  • Unable to install VMware Tools

Solution

These issues happen because of a conflict with Parallels Tools. These tools must be uninstalled before running the virtual machine under VMware Fusion.

To be able to install VMware Tools:
  1. Uninstall Parallels Tools. For information, consult Parallels' documentation.
  2. Manually remove the Parallels Tools entry from Add/Remove programs. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 247501.
  3. Restart the virtual machine.
