View Client with Offline Desktop may not work in some locations that use non-ASCII characters (1007664)
Details
If the .vmx file has non-ASCII characters or if the snapshot files have non-ASCII characters, checking out may fail.
Solution
Use the following procedure to resolve this issue:
-
Use a VI Client with ASCII characters to access VirtualCenter or ESX.
-
Edit the settings on the virtual machine and change the operating system to a different value (this is a temporary change).
-
Edit the same settings back to the previous value. This re-writes the .vmx file and resolved issues with the non-ASCII characters.
-
Delete any snapshots that may exist as they may contain non-ASCII characters.
-
Check out the desktop.
