Collecting diagnostic information for VMware View Composer
Purpose
VMware Technical Support routinely requests diagnostic information from you when a support request is handled. This diagnostic information contains product specific logs and configuration files from the host on which the product is run. The information is gathered using a specific script or tool for each product.
This article provides procedures for obtaining diagnostic information for VMware View Manager 3.x.
The diagnostic information collected can then be uploaded to VMware Technical Support. To uniquely identify your information, use the Support Request (SR) number you received when you opened your Support Request.
- Instructions for opening a support request can be found online at www.vmware.com/support/policies/howto.html
- Instructions for uploading your support files can be found online at Uploading diagnostic information to VMware (1008525)
- Instructions for obtaining diagnostic information for other VMware products can be found online at Collecting diagnostic information for VMware products (1008524)
Resolution
VMware View Composer includes a script called svi-support that collects logging information for use by VMware Technical Support.
To collect diagnostic information for View Composer using the script:
-
Open a command prompt on the View Composer server. For more information, see Opening a command or shell prompt (1003892) .
-
Run the following command:
cd "%ProgramFiles%\VMware\VMware View Composer"
-
Run the following command to execute the support script:
cscript svi-support.wsf /zip
Note: The /zip switch directs the script to compress the output.
When the script finishes, the output filename and location are displayed.
Note: There are 3 other components to View Manager where logs can be gathered, the Connection Server, Client, Agent. You can find more information about collecting logs for those at Collecting diagnostic information for Virtual Desktop Manager (VDM) (1003901).
