Algorithm Used for Load Balancing While Placing Virtual Machine In a Cluster
Details
The algorithm used for balancing the workload while placing virtual machine on a valid host or cluster differs based on whether VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) is enabled on the cluster.
On a DRS-enabled cluster, Lab Manager uses the DRS algorithm used by the VirtualCenter to load balance non-fenced virtual machines. In Lab Manager 3.0, the virtual machines are initially placed on the first host in the cluster, and DRS moves the virtual machines to other hosts later.
Lab Manager 3.0.1 uses DRS to determine the initial placement of virtual machines.
On a cluster where DRS is disabled, Lab Manager uses an algorithm that places virtual machines on the valid hosts with the maximum available memory resources.
