Unable to deploy configuration from Lab Manager (1007441)

Symptoms

  • Unable to deploy virtual machines
  • You receive the errors:

    • Error: SysinfoException: Node (VSI_NODE_net_create) ; Status(bad0006)= Limit exceeded; Message= Unable to Set
    • ESX Server is Busy
    • WARNING: NetPortset: 811: vSwitchName-58LM12: too many ports on system already (4800, limit is 4608)

Resolution

This issue occurs when there are not enough available ports on the vSwitch that is being used for Lab Manager or the maximum number of vSwitch ports for the ESX host is exceeded.

By default, 56 ports are configured when you create a Lab Manager Network vSwitch. Change this default value if need more fenced deployments.

To view and edit the number of available ports:
  1. Connect to the host.
  2. Click Configuration > Networking > vSwitch properties.
  3. Click the vSwitch.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Change the number of ports.
You can also use the #esxcfg-vswitch -l command to view the number of ports.

To ensure there are enough available ports:
  1. Increase the number of ports available on the Lab Manager vSwitch. For detailed instructions, see Network cable of a virtual machine appears unplugged (1004883).
  2. Verify that the ESX host has not run out of ports. The maximum number of vSwitch ports per server is 4096. If the server runs out of ports, additional ports cannot be assigned during deployment even if the switch port setting appears to have enough ports. Review the vSwitch port assignments and either reduce the number of ports assigned to other switches or remove some unused switches.

Note: In some cases, if you have upgraded from a previous version of Lab Manager, the previously used switches may remain assigned, even though they are not used. Check for leftover switches as they may be consuming up ports.
