Choosing a Screen Resolution When Running vmware-config-tools.pl Might Cause a "No Screens Found" Error

Details

When you run vmware-config-tools.pl to configure VMware Tools on a Linux guest, occasionally if you choose a screen resolution other than the default, you might get the following error message: Fatal server error: no screens found. You might not be able to log in to X again, even though you are prompted to change the screen resolution and accept the prompt.

Solution

Run vmware-config-tools.pl again, choose a different resolution, log out, and then log in again.
