3-D Games Might Cause Linux Hosts with Some ATI Cards to Freeze

Details

Playing certain games such as Unreal Tournament 3, CIV4, Gears of War, and Call of Duty 4 can cause a Linux host system to freeze if you have an ATI graphics card. This situation is more likely to occur if you have noticed ATI hardware problems when using other applications in addition to Workstation.

Solution

If you play 3-D games in a virtual machine on a Linux host with an ATI graphics card and find that the host system freezes, you might need to upgrade to a newer version of the ATI driver, such as ATI Catalyst 8.10 or higher.
