VMware Tools Cannot Start on Ubuntu 7.10 Guests If an Unsupported Screen Resolution Is Used

When you run vmware-config-tools.pl to configure VMware Tools on a Ubuntu 7.10 guest, if you select a resolution other than the one selected by default, you might not be able to start VMware Tools. This is because some of the resolutions that are listed are actually not supported by the driver.

Solution

Run vmware-config-tools.pl again and use the default resolution or select a different, higher, resolution.
