Ensuring services or network servers are available to the application

Symptoms

  • A virtualized application fails to start
  • You receive an error message similar to:

    Unable to connect

Resolution

To ensure your services or network servers are available to the application:

  1. System services can be used in conjunction with user-mode virtualized applications, provided they follow these requirements:

    • The required service must be pre-installed on deployment computer
    • The service must not require elevated system privileges such as administrator account access or runs in kernel-mode

  2. Network servers must be available to the virtualized application when deployed in the same connection manner that was used during capture.

To verify that connections are available:
    1. Build a diagnostic package and include the cmd.exe entry point.
    2. Run the bundled cmd.exe on the deployment computer to run network diagnostics such as ping or telnet to test connectivity with the required network servers.

For more information, see Testing network connectivity with the Ping command (1003486), and Testing port connectivity with the Telnet command (1003487).
