Installing the APC Powerchute Network Shutdown software on ESX/ESXi hosts

Purpose

This article provides information on installing the APC PowerChute Network Shutdown software on ESX/ESXi hosts.

Resolution

APC PowerChute Network Shutdown software works in conjunction with the APC UPS Network Management Card to provide a graceful, unattended shutdown of multiple computer systems over a network.

To install PowerChute Network Shutdown on ESX/ESXi hosts, see the APC Knowledge Base:

Installing PowerChute Network Shutdown 2.2.3 and 2.2.4 on VMware ESX and ESXi 3.5, 4.0, and 4.1.
Installation of PowerChute Network Shutdown version 3.0 on VMware ESXi - vMA 4.x and 5.0.

Note: You only need one vMA appliance in your environment which can be used to manage all hosts.

Additional Information

Note: The new software is more automated. Run the command install.sh to install the software in /opt/group1/PCNSConfig.sh. Java is now installed and all firewall ports are opened automatically.
