NetXen NC510F 10GB adapter not detected (1007034)

Symptoms

  • The NetXen NC510F is being picked up but is not being assigned as a vmnic.
  • The NetXen NC510F cannot be used.
  • NetXen cards use the unm_nic (3.4.115) driver and you can see that this is also correctly identified in /etc/modules.conf but the esxcfg-nics -l command does not list the adapter.

Resolution

An update of the firmware is required to resolve the issue, in this case it is the OEM HP version running driver unm_nic (3.4.115) (VMware-esx-drivers-net-unm_nic-350.3.4.115-82663).

VMware recommends the nx_tools-3.4.263-5.rpm firmware. After updating the firmware version to 3.4.263, the esxcfg-nics command is able to list the information about the NetXen device.
