Correctly preparing a virtual machine template for deployment
Symptoms
- Deployed virtual desktops stuck in a customizing state
- A connection error occurs to a virtual desktop
Purpose
Resolution
To determine if a virtual machine template is properly prepared:
-
Verify that the virtual machine is running an operating system supported by the VDM agent. For more information, see the VDM Installation and Administration Guide, System Requirements section.
-
Verify that the VDM Agent is installed and working properly. For more information, see Checking the VDM Agent installation and status (1006780).
-
If multiple network environments (virtual switches) are configured on the ESX host, verify that the virtual machine's virtual network interface card (vNIC) is connected to the correct virtual network.
To verify that the vNIC is connected to the correct virtual network:
-
Open the Virtual Infrastructure client and connect to the ESX host.
-
Right-click the virtual machine in the inventory pane. Click Edit Settings > Network Adapter.
-
Observe the Network Connection item and verify that it is set to the correct network.
-
-
If the template is to be deployed to multiple ESX hosts, verify that all ESX hosts use identical network labels corresponding to the network names used in the virtual machine. All network names on all servers used must match exactly.
-
Verify that the template virtual machine is able join the domain. If the virtual desktops are set to automatically join the domain as set in the guest customization specifications, ensure to remove the original virtual machine from the domain before converting it into a template and deploying it.
