VMware ESX 3.5, Patch ESX350-200901408-BG: Updates SATA Drivers (1006658)
Release Date: Jan. 30, 2009
Summaries and Symptoms
This fix changes the sata_svw driver to disable DMA and use PIO instead for ATAPI devices.
Symptoms seen without this patch: Certain ESX 3.5 systems might stall when loading the sata_svw.o module, when the system is rebooted. The affected ESX 3.5 systems are configured with:
- a Broadcom HT-1000 SATA controller onboard (or built-in)
- a SATA CD/DVD drive connected
If you try to install ESX 3.5 software from a CD-ROM on hosts with this hardware configuration, the ESX installer cannot detect the CD/DVD drive and installation cannot continue.
None beyond the required patch bundles and reboot information listed in the table, above.
