Solution
Summaries and Symptoms
This patch fixes the following issue:
The ordering of shutdown scripts installed by VMware Tools prevented some Linux guests from shutting down properly. This problem occurred when vmxnet was unloaded before networking was shut down. This patch updates the VMware Tools shutdown scripts so that vmxnet is not unloaded at shutdown. To support tools upgrade, the vmxnet driver is now unloaded in the VMware Tools config and uninstall scripts.
Symptoms seen without this patch: Linux guests might fail to reboot when a vmxnet adapter is used to access NFS mounts. The following message is seen when the guest is shutting down:
Error: unregister_netdevice: waiting for eth0 to become free. Usage count = 1
Deployment Considerations
