Troubleshooting a wizard interrupt error for VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 2

Symptoms

  • The unified installer reports an error when upgrading Update Manager during the upgrade of Virtual Center 2.5 to Update 2
  • You receive the following error:  

    The wizard was interrupted, please run the installation again.

  • The following error appears in C:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\temp\vminst.log :

    VMware Update Manager-build-103284: 08/01/08 15:24:14 Process returned 128
    VMware Update Manager-build-103284: 08/01/08 15:24:14 db_config.exe::Other runtime error

Resolution

The error is generated when the msvcr71.dll file is missing from C:\Windows\system32 .  
Copy the msvcr71.dll file from C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager to C:\Windows\system32 to resolve the issue.
 
This isssue is resolved with the Update Manager 1.0 Update 3 release.
