Troubleshooting Lab Manager server component installation or upgrade issues

Symptoms

  • Lab Manager server installation does not complete or fails
  • Upgrading an existing Lab Manager server is not successful
  • When connecting to the Lab Manager administration page, these errors may appear:
    • Server Error in '/LabManager' Application.
    • Configuration Error
      Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.
    • Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'type'.
    • The version contained in the error is not a 2.0 version number. For example:
      Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:1.1.4322.2379; ASP.NET Version:1.1.4322.2379

Resolution

Validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment. The steps will provide instructions or a link to a document, for validating the step and taking corrective action as necessary. The steps are ordered in the most appropriate sequence to isolate the issue and identify the proper resolution. Please do not skip a step.
  1. If you are performing an upgrade of Lab Manager from a previous release, verify that the existing database is accessible. For more information,see Troubleshooting database access (1006849).

  2. Verify that the system requirements and software prerequisites are met. For more information, see Lab Manager Requirements (1006729).

  3. Verify the server's installation of the Microsoft ASP.NET component is the correct version and installed correctly. For more information, see Verifying the Microsoft ASP.NET version installed in the Lab Manager server (1006918).

  4. If you are upgrading, confirm that Internet Information Services (IIS) and vCenter Lab Manager Monitor service are started. For more information, see Unable to access vCenter Lab Manager Management page (1038411).

  5. Check the server's decimal separator setting in the regional settings. The decimal setting must be the period (.) character. For more information,see Non-US date and number format regional settings may cause errors in Stage Manager and Lab Manager (1002259).
