ESX Server 3.0.3: Check Partition Size When Performing ESX Server 3.0.3 Upgrades (1006163)

Details

Upgrades from supported ESX Server 2.x versions to ESX Server 3.0.3 fail with an error message Could not allocate requested partitions: Paritioning failed: The system partitions are too large to fit within the constraint you have specified .

Solution

The preupgrade.pl  script is fixed to warn users about insufficient partition space in the /boot partition, and gives an option to abort or continue with the installation after this warning is issued.
If you choose to continue, the installation will continue, but might fail due to insufficient space.

You will need to edit the partitions manually when upgrading from supported ESX Server 2.x versions if the free space in /boot partition is less than what is required for the upgrade.
