Solution
Summaries and Symptoms
Issues fixed in this patch (and their relevant symptoms, if applicable) include:
- An older version of msvcrt.dll might replace a higher version of msvcrt.dll during VMware Tools upgrade. This fix addresses the issue and replaces the msvcrt.dll only if a higher version is not present.

When users upgrade from GA to patch installations of ESX Server 3.0.x, the VMware Tools package is not upgraded.
Symptoms: During a VMware Tools upgrade, older files are not replaced. -
Compilation of guest drivers fails for the Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.04.1 guest operating systems as support for newer kernel is absent.
Symptoms: Compiling modules on Ubuntu 8.04 guest operating system fails with the following error message:
Unable to build the vmmemctl module.
None of the pre-built vmhgfs modules……
Unable to build the vmhgfs module.
None of the pre-built vmxnet modules……
Unable to build the vmxnet module

When installing VMware Tools on a Solaris 10 U5 virtual machine on ESX Server 3.0.3, the VMware Tools installation fails when configuring the X server.

To update ESX Server 3.0.3 hosts when not using VMware Update Manager, download the most recent patch bundle from http://support.vmware.com/selfsupport/download/ and install the bundle using esxupdate from the command line of the host.
